Theology of sickness
John Piper is a Christian pastor and author who four years ago was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but who recovered and resumed his public ministry. This link is to a sermon he wrote much earlier (in 1980) titled, "Christ and cancer," in which he described his Calvinist understanding of sickness, healing and death. It's a deeply pastoral message based on Romans 8--one of the greatest verses in the Bible. It's here that God promises that there will be liberation for all his creation from bondage and decay, including cancer. Piper is one of the best preachers of our time. This is worth listening to or reading.

Piper is fantastic, and just added to his legacy by ending his Facebook and Twitter posts to concentrate on his battle against an enemy more deadly than cancer ... his pride. There's so much I can learn from Piper, and you, too, Peter.
