Ready for a hundred battles

So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss. If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose. If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself. --Sun Tzu

I dislike martial metaphors for describing my response to the cancer in my life, but this quote from “The Art of War” captures the essence of my desire to both better understand myself and the disease within me. By gaining a command of both, I’m at least ready for “a hundred battles.” Without a single loss? I’m not so sure about that, but the ancient wisdom of Sun Tzu provides some inspiration.
