I got a faxed copy of the report this morning, and it’s a mixed bag. The scan I had on Friday showed several subcutaneous nodules—at least two more than I was aware of. They’re all small (less than 8 mm) and at least a couple are nonspecific but suspicious (meaning they may or may not be mets). The good news is there’s no sign of internal mets. So my plan is to pay Dr. Vetto (OHSU) another visit on Tuesday afternoon. Not sure how many mets will be coming out, but I assume at least four. He may decide I need two sessions. This will be outpatient surgery, as before. You’d be amazed at how quickly he works. At this stage, surgery is a blessing. I don’t want to even think about the alternative.
I’m teaching tonight, and planning to brave the elements for the Shamrock Run in Portland on Sunday. According to legend, Saint Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the pre-Christian Irish people. I doubt this is why the organizers chose to name their event after the shamrock, but I have no argument with the symbolism. I'd be happy to have a little luck rub off on me.

Wishing you the luck 'o the Irish in your run in Portland this morning. St. Patrick will be running at your side, for certain. May the rain wash away your sins and your mets, too. I hope you will raise a microbrew to your continued good health and good luck.
